Singing Greener: How We’re Powering ChoirBLAST 2026 with Electric Vehicles

We have some exciting news to share. This June, ChoirBLAST will be welcoming a very special kind of supporter to the festival and they’re bringing their electric vehicles with them.

Shelly Motors, the family-run Kia dealership based in Epsom, is partnering with us to loan a selection of electric vehicles for the festival. These won’t just be parked up looking smart, they’ll be actively helping to power festival stages and food vendors through a technology called Vehicle-to-Load (V2L), which lets electric vehicles share their battery power with other equipment. Think of it as a silent, zero-emission generator.

Why this matters to us

ChoirBLAST is proudly rooted in Godalming, a town surrounded by nature in all its glory: green parks and meadows, gorgeous towering trees, a burbling river and the soundtrack of birdsong. We’ve always believed that caring for that natural world is part of what it means to be a good community event.

From the very beginning, we’ve worked hard to reduce our environmental footprint. One of our stages already runs on solar battery power, and our others draw electricity from nearby buildings rather than diesel generators. We reuse our staging and decorations year on year, and we sort our waste carefully so as much as possible is recycled.

The Shelly Motors partnership is the next step in that journey. More clean power, less noise, and a genuinely innovative use of technology that we’re excited to try out, right in the heart of town.

Quieter streets, cleaner air

One thing we don’t always talk about is noise. Diesel generators are loud, a constant background hum that competes with the music, disrupts nearby residents, and is frankly not very pleasant for anyone. Electric vehicles used this way are almost silent. Combined with 100 choirs filling the streets with song, that feels like exactly the kind of festival atmosphere we want to create.

We’re also very aware that we sit within a beautiful Surrey landscape. Every step we take to reduce emissions is a step towards looking after the air quality and natural environment that makes Godalming such a special place to hold an outdoor event.

Thank you, Shelly Motors

We’re genuinely grateful to the team at Shelly Motors for getting behind ChoirBLAST in such a practical and imaginative way. It’s a wonderful example of a local business using what it does best to support its community and we couldn’t be more pleased to have them on board.

If you’re curious about electric vehicles yourself, whether you’re considering making the switch or just want to know more, the Shelly Motors team at Shelly Motors | Kia in Epsom are experts at making the whole thing feel simple and accessible. Worth a visit.

We’ll see you in Godalming on 12th and 13th June.

Come for the choirs. Stay for the sunshine!

And rest easy knowing the power keeping it all going is just a little bit cleaner this year.
